Doctors have given a woman a new windpipe with tissue engineered from her own stem cells.

Everyone who has read about this women wonders about the implications for people who want new things to grow in their bodies. For the hearing impaired/deafness/tinnitus we are thinking if they can do a windpipe what about ear hairs. With President-elect Obama indicating a reversal on embryonic stem cell research could we be ushering in and accelerating the advancement of cures to replace our broken parts?

BTW, I have read that researchers have grown ear hair cells in mice and guinea pigs using stem cells. The obstacle for humans is the delivery method. For these creatures the treatment was delivered via a virus. Researchers have dismissed using that vehicle method when trials begin for humans.
