the difference it makes for me is:  when my tinnitus is loud, which it is more often than not, i'm no longer surprised.   when it's lower, that's when i'm surprised.   (though at this point any surprise having to do with tinnitus is very mild for me.   i notice that it's different, but fleetingly.   it may happen fleetingly one or ten times a day, but it's not a focus.)   this is probably the reason that by the time i started posting, i wasn't sure what people meant by "spikes."  it was easy enough to figure out after some reading of posts, but i never think of myself as having a spike on any given day.   i just know i have loud tinnitus.

but definitely, to each his or her own.   also i don't see the imagery and baseline strategies as mutually exclusive;  both have helped me.
